In 2008, Researchers at Temple University and TALK Institute and School (Newtown Square, PA) partnered with Owens Corning to learn whether the application of sound absorbing materials (in the form of Owens Corning's 95% sound absorbent finishing system) to classroom walls and ceilings would improve students' attention. The answer appears to be a resounding yes. The results showed an increase in attention during classroom activities and an unexpected boost in students' engagement with each other.
At the suggestion of renowned Occupational Therapist and TALK Advisor Jeannetta Burpee, a six-week-long, three-phase study was designed by a research team consisting of the following members:

- Dr. Moya Kinnealey - Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Temple University
The results of the study were nothing short of amazing.
- Frequency of students' non-attending behaviors decreased over the course of the study
- Self regulation, attention and sensory sensitivities stabilized
- Parents reported positive change in self regulation, attention and sensory sensitivities in the home environment after school
- Teachers reported that teaching sessions were more productive
- Students were observed to initiate and reciprocate social interaction for the first time. For some of the children, this had never been seen before!
